Mrs. Teewinot and I headed for New Mexico last weekend instead of Dinosaur NM. The weather forecast for Colorado called for lots of rain and snow over the weekend and boy did it deliver. New Mexico was warm and sunny. I had always wanted to check out El Malpais NM which is about an hour west of Albuquerque. You could easily spend a full day exploring this Monument and the crowds were almost non existent. El Malpais is Spanish for the The Badlands. Its an area of recent volcanic activity and lava flows. This is a view across the lava flows from the Sandstone Bluffs Overlook.
