The commercialization of natural resources in National Parks/Monuments/etc. has been attempted since Yellowstone was founded in 1872. Heck even before 1872. I'm pretty sure that was part of the purpose of the pre-1872 visits to Yellowstone. Even when political conditions were more favorable for stuff like this to happen in the past, it most often never happened. With the exception of the Hetch Hetchy Dam in Yosemite and the near successful attempt to dam the Colorado River in Grand Canyon in the mid 20th century, the vast majority of folks now realize stuff like this shouldn't be allowed in NP and NMs and rational thinking prevails. Also consider the source of your link. A web site called Climate Progress is definitely gonna have a certain bias in their reporting

I did find your comment about being freaking obsessed with oil to be quite funny, considering without it you would almost certainly never be able to visit and enjoy Yellowstone with the ease in which you have become accustomed to.
