I don't think the oil companies are any greedier than any of the people that use their products. Oil companies are not stupid. They don't want oil spills any more than you do. It's bad publicity and causes heavy fines. And your second question is almost too . . . asinine to explore. People are working around the clock to improve, conserve and power our needs. Ever hear of Elon Musk? Algae based oil? More study - less emotion.
