I celebrated your birthday by going to the Maine Coast Botanical Gardens. It's 250 acres containing carefully planned gardens of all sorts and trails of varying lengths. The nice thing is that much of it is in the shade and it's all laid out in such a way that the place doesn't feel overly crowded (because it's my contention that other people ruin everything). If you get tired walking the trails, there's a quiet shuttle that comes by every so often to pick you up and drop you in another area. Some of the gardens are water gardens (complete with dragonflies, frogs, and turtles - no skunks, possums, or slugs), some are evergreens (mmm, smell that?), some are woods gardens (I didn't know there were so many different kinds of ferns), and all are beautiful. Plus, the various species are labeled in case you see something intriguing whose name you don't know. I can't imagine the amount of planning and maintenance involved. Anyhow, it was a lovely woods walk which you can enjoy vicariously through me.
