Outside my window these evenings I can see fireflies rising, a light here and there. Last week I spent 3 nights in rural Ohio at a farm while the owners traveled. This is the view I share.
Twilight had departed around 10 PM and true darkness surrounded me, something I never see in the city.
The farm buildings sit at the end of ½ mile driveway with a pond; large mowed areas with tall grasses as well as short; and with walls of trees and woods interspersed.
From the top of the trees to the ground were fireflies, thousands of them. The grasses were as if someone had spilled a treasure of sparkling gems upward. Each light was clear and sharp but after a time, the blinking lights merged into a vapor in which the senses got lost.
