:::NEWS FLASH::: Should Yellowstone National Park Service be allowed to Cracker Bomb Grizzly Bear Sows with COY? At 2:10pm today 06-12-14 near Norris Campgrounds a Sow Grizzly with 1 COY was cracker bombed 4 times! I was told several years ago by a Bear Management person that it is the policy of Bear Management to not cracker bomb Sows with COY in Yellowstone National Park. However Rangers 5 Charlie 33 and 5 Charlie 31 did just that a few hours ago. The Sow was simply eating grass and grazing outside the perimeter of the campground. She was not attempting to go into the campground and was at peace with her little COY at her side. Some of you will know this Bear as the Sow with 3 cubs at Beryl Springs in May. She has lost 2 of her cubs already and yet the Park service is treating her this way. We need to hold them accountable for their actions. Is this the kind of Park that Superintendent Wenk is running? Harass and molest the bears whenever possible? Cracker bombing does only one thing for sure, it makes bear more aggressive towards humans. This was told to me by a ranger from the North gate in 2011. Several years ago when Blaze had triplets she was cracker bombed behind Fishing Bridge and one of her COY died as a result. So I ask why????????? For those whom may not know what cracker bomb is, it is an explosive projectile similar to the old school M80 firecracker fire from a shotgun. The round has a short delay then explodes above the bears head. The Beryl Springs Sow does not deserve to be treated in this way when she is simply behave as a bear should!
