I've forgotten the actual title, but two years ago, there was a best seller book on the settlement of the ownership of a stolen painting, Gustav Klimpt's golden portrait of Adele Bloch Bauer II. The painting wasn't lost, but its provenance had been destroyed...had been on display in the main Austrian art gallery all this time. The family managed to document their ownership, with the result that the painting has been auctioned off, I think. Or it may still be on loan to the Vienna art museum.
