I got a call from the nursing home around 9 a.m. One minute she
was up, dressed and "doing fine". When they checked on her moments
later, she had laid her head down, and she was gone.
Mom has been living with Alzheimer's for a number of years and we
had begun to notice a decline in the past few months. She still
recognized all "her girls" (there are six of us!) and could put us
together with the correct sons-in-law and kids most of the time. I
feel blessed that she left us before she slid down the deep black
hole that is Alzheimer's. She also battled uterine cancer,
lymphoma, 4 episodes of skin cancer, and has had a pacemaker since
1991. She was "ready to go". She told us that many times -
especially over the past six months. All that being said, I don't
think we can ever really be ready to lose our Mom.
The next few days are going to be tough....
