This was a very warm day for March, and the cranes were not spread around the fields as on other days. I was thinking this day might be a dud for pictures because the cranes were either huddled under the trees or staying on the sandbars in the river... both a long way from the road.
We drove by this little pond about 40 miles from here where the cranes were all grouped together. Couldn't even start to estimate how many. I love all the activity going on. Over on the left, two of the cranes have their heads extended straight up... calling? drinking? I'm not sure. A few cranes are splashing in the water. Others are just resting or trying to find something to eat.
