I was there last year. It is best in the early morning. Deadwood is a good lunch stop. Mt. Rushmore only takes about an hour. You can see most of it from the top of the parking garage. I enjoy watching the goats feeding on the vegetation. A full week is a long time unless you have plans to fish.

If you are heading West toward Yellowstone, I like using Route 212 across to the Custer Battlefield site and catch Interstate 90.
