on Nikon digi-scoping at the link. I rented a 600/4, once. It is a beast, very heavy and clumsy to handle. The 500 with the 1.4TC does it all much easier, especially for someone with old bones. You can pickup a lightly used 500/4 AFSII for what that Swarovski rig goes for, wink wink. It is non-VR, what I have, bought used. The used VR one is 1-2 K more. IMO, not worth it. I had the 500/4 P, which was manual focus. It worked as a rangefinder and an indicator light would show in the viewfinder when you were in focus, not bad, and a classic piece of glass; about 1-2K used, but no TC compatability.
