I was having trouble getting to sleep just before midnight so I pulled up the YNP website and accessed the live streaming view of Old Faithful. I really wasn't expecting anything to be visible, but the light content in the view was pretty substantial, and the steam was rolling. I wondered if this might have been a capture from earlier in the day, and watched it for a while to see if anything would repeat, the sign of a digital loop. Nothing repeated, I wasn't lucky enough to watch an eruption, but I saw distinct plumes in the OF and Beehive direction. Then I realized I could see individual plumes off to the left of the view over some trees. Watched these ascend or merge for a while, then noticed when the main OF steam blew lower to the ground, I could make out a very clear star point in a dark part of the sky. The steam blanked things out for a few minutes, but then hunkered down, and there were at least two stars showing! Not such a Black Friday!
