Inset B&W photo of Newspaper Rock, Petrified Forest NP, taken about 1955. Large photo taken May of 2011 from a distant overlook. The latter-day restoration of the original attempt is better than might have been hoped for but obviously not ideal as what's underneath is gone forever. Problem was partly solved by removing road access that existed in 1955. Some day everything will have to be in a protective cage. I vote for putting park visitors in the cage, not the park resources,
