Back in early 2010, when I had been diagnosed with lymphoma, I started a blog, so I could keep family and friends updated on the battle. It was an effort to streamline communications more than anything else. I figured it would cut down on an anticipated barrage of emails. Then, thanks to the diagnostic efforts of the folks at NIH who found the first cancer, I was diagnosed with a second variety in 2011, and that required surgery. (The first one was dealt with via radiation treatments.)
I mentioned "Black Bart", a black bear who terrorized backcountry travelers in Rocky Mountain National Park back in the early 1980s, in a discussion on the explore.org Brooks Fall webcams forum, and several regulars asked me to tell the story. I told them I would do so, but would wait until after the bears disappeared and the page traffic diminished, thinking that bear fans might be desperate for bear stories come winter. Well, I just resurrected my long abandoned blog, and posted the story. While doing that, I also added a slide show and some text to the "About" page. That's where this link will take you. If you prefer to skip the "About" page, you can simply click on "December 2016" at the top of the "Archives" list on the right side of the page.
I'm hoping to publish more non-fiction adventure/bear/comedy, etc. stories over time on this blog, along with trip reports. It's a lot easier than having to mount photos on some third party website, and then break the story into little pieces for posting here. Instead, I can just post a link. Lazy of me, isn't it!
