I expect the areas contributing to the arsenic problem will have to be pretty limited. The sewerage line from Mammoth runs down the main road until the canyon widens near the bridge across the Gardner and the Turkeypen Trailhead. I think the collection area is Mammoth to Gardiner, and whatever Gardiner puts into the lines to the ponds, Jardine and Crevasse, perhaps? Don't forget that the Bear Creek area housed several gold mines, and mercury and arsenic treatments pre-dated cyanide in gold-recovery technique (though I'm not sure what kind of treatments were used in these gold processing plants). Areas outside of Mammoth may be high in arsenic, but should be putting it into the Yellowstone River or Madison drainages as free-flow, not into the sewerage system.
