Today's Alaska Dispatch News ran a story about the inner workings of the Katmai National Park web cams that are viewed by millions from around the world. It is a good article, generally speaking, but I wish they would have dug down a bit deeper on the latest power technology being employed to extend cam life once the available solar power source diminishes in autumn. Last year, a spiffy new power cell technology was deployed, and I'm having trouble remembering the exact material that is central to the application. It's possible that Charlie Annenberg of explore.org or the manufacturer doesn't want it publicized at this point.
