46er,

It definitely missed the mark on the potential for powerful live broadcasting from Yellowstone. I just wonder how much of that is due to inherent ineptness versus NPS restrictions on what they can do with that helicopter.

I enjoyed the little segments on the beavers at Schwabacher's, and the shots of the grizzlies destroying the theoretical campsite were kind of a giggle.

The irony is that we stumbled on what had to be a bison bull carcass situation out in western Hayden Valley on Saturday. There were multiple grizzlies coming and going, and we saw 10 wolves. We could not I/D the carcass, because it was on the far side of a ridge that we were not about to cross. We just spent a few hours watching the traffic. If that helicopter was allowed to get somewhere a mile or two away, staying airborne, but taking advantage of the killer optics on their cameras, they could get some incredible footage I am guessing.

Ironically, on Saturday, while we were out in the valley, a helicopter on official business overflew the valley, checking on the Hayden Fire, and then was redirected up north to get a visual on a new fire start. I think it was on Folsom Peak. We could hear the conversation between Dispatch and the pilot on the park radio. That chopper did not overfly the area we were in, but it was within a mile, maybe mile and a half, and did not seem to have any noticeable impact on the behavior of the critters.
