I visited in June and was disappointed by the crowds also, especially the geyser basin area on west side. Saw few wildlife, but maybe that's because we weren't in the park at daybreak or late evenings. Then, I guess it was the tourists, on the drive from W. Yellowstone to Madison Jct., traffic was stalled for miles, and when we finally got to the bottleneck it turned out that bison herd was off road lying down or way off road...maybe they'd never seen a bison before. Also, the roadwork delayed us, but I guess it was better than road closure. I was also disappointed that I couldn't drive at the top of Mammoth on that drive, and Firehole Lake Drive was closed. And I notice that since my body has gotten older parking lots are way farther from where a person is going.
