This was at Machu Pichhu in Peru. Our guides showed us how the Incas had cut the stone to resemble the mountain behind where they placed the stone. Sorry about the shadow on stone. Lots of people were wanting to photograph it, so we were rushed to take photo and move on and I hadn't noticed the shadow. So, Teewinot, several hundred years ago some Inca had same idea as you thought up. Now, if only my transfer from flickr is successful.
