but all places are managed by culling the herds periodically. Custer does it. National Bison Range in MT does it. No matter where the bison are; there is a limit to how many can be supported. I guess I don't see what all the hubbub about YNP managing the number of bison the park can support. I suppose there is ranch land and government land available to hold more animals, but eventually there has to be a point where culling and management must be implemented. We're never going to get back to 60 million again, so the question would be "How many are enough to make you happy?" Is there a number?
I will say this. I can't see hunting bison as a sport. I do think sentimentality towards bison is way out of proportion. I don't see much outcry over elk, antelope, deer, etc...
