Hi All !!

Congaree is about 15-20 miles from Columbia, SC.

One of my sons lived in Augusta, GA for about 3 years. It is right across the Savannah River from SC. I would go and visit on long weekends and explore Augusta and then started to explore SC.

I explored Congaree on October 25 and 26, 2010.
Most of us would probably see Congaree as a "swamp." It is actually called a bottomland floodplain forest. Does it sound like I know what I am talking about?? :-)

The park has lots of champion trees.
On my 2nd day there, I went on a ranger walk and no one else signed up, so it was great to have the ranger all to myself. We walked 2.6 miles of boardwalk. It was a gorgeous day, a bit warm, the wind was blowing thru the trees. It was "raining leaves" and the woodpeckers and frogs were busy. We ended up at Weston Lake and then the ranger moved on.
I slowly sauntered back out, picked a bench, got comfortable, closed my eyes, and just listened to the breezy windy. IT WAS HEAVENLY !!

I always enjoy reading here so much about places I have never been. Would ya'll like to hear about more of my wanderings?
