Mr. Gump,

We were overdue for some "incendiary" event to fuel the long idle penchant for producing sensationalistic scare documentaries and el cheapo scary movies about volcanoes. This might be just the ticket.

Even though Hollywood seemed to max out (in terms of numbers of productions) in 1957, and the Japanese had a long run with inventing all sorts of super gigantic monsters, there has been nobody the equal of the Brits, when it comes to manufacturing scary cinema. After all, they gave Yellowstone's bison their nouveau nom, "Thunder Beast". Some of the cinematic British productions on the caldera not too long ago were true works of an overworked imagination, but probably quite productive, in terms of having a laxative effect on the uninformed.

This leads me to wonder if a population that has suffered repetitive catastrophic bombing (both Tokyo and London) becomes so stoic that it takes things way off the scale to have much of an impact in the entertainment realm. Having said that, I wonder why we haven't seen anything comparable from the Germans or Russians? There goes my theory!

Regardless, I hope this latest discovery fuels the British imagination, and we get some Anglo-Spielberg that rises up and produces something both conceivable and really SCARY.
