DG,

I'm guessing that would be one of the Nez Perce groups or chapters over in Idaho. I know they have been very involved with Yellowstone in general (maybe related to their history: Joseph, Looking Glass, White Bird et al on the lam, chased by General Howard through the park in August of 1877). They were one of the principal native entities participating in the first bison hunts north of the park. I know they have sent representatives to IBMP meetings, because I was present to see them introduced.

I wonder if the herd in northern Colorado is somewhere out toward the Pawnee Buttes? That would be an ideal place for bison, lots of empty space and food availability.

I'm including a link in this post to "Tanka Bar", which is a thriving venture created by Oglala Lakota on the Pine Ridge Reservation. One of their recent "coups" was having their products picked up for distribution by REI. I know I've talked them up before on these pages, but some folks reading this might not have seen it. It is a great example of native entrepreneurial effort using a traditional resource. We know that some Yellowstone bison that were removed from the population in the past were not put to good use. The government is running out of excuses for wasting this valuable resource. (I know the face to the public is that "all" the bison are donated to native peoples or charities, but not ALL bison have found that sort of home in death!)
