Paul,

Pay a visit to the Verizon Wireless store on the north side of Main St., just west of McDonald's. They have a campaign going where they are offering around $600 or $650 to customers that switch from another carrier to their service.

Then take a page from Granite Head's book. Get your bill electronically, and start paying the bill electronically via your bank's electronic bill paying program. There is no cost for either service. It saves the carrier the expense of generating a paper bill, as well as the bulk mail payment to the USPS. For you, it spares you any risk associated with someone pilfering your mail, logistical hassles associated with being away on long trips, the time expended writing a check, and the postage applied to the mailing envelope. Given what you have reported, going electronic would also thwart AT&T's health club-like effort to move you to simply letting them suck money off your credit card.

Like GraniteHead, I've been doing electronic bill receipt and bill paying for quite a few years, and I have not had a single problem with the process. It has saved me money and time.

FYI, virtually all the long time local Loons around Bozeman, Gardiner, and Livingston use Verizon Wireless, because it provides better coverage overall in Yellowstone and along Hwy 89. There are coverage holes in both carrier's service in that geography, but overall, Verizon Wireless has superior coverage.
