The "W" name came from the titles on the artist's paintings. I didn't think the Confederates fought any campaigns in Oklahoma, but Pike had battles in Arkansas. According to the T-L Civil War compendium, there were fights in Oklahoma, following the big battle at Pea Ridge in AR, when federal Gens. Carr, Sigel and Curtis came up against Pike, Van Dorn and McCulloch, plus Indian allies. After Pea Ridge, Pike moved back to Indian Territory in Oklahoma until Sept. 1862. By Feb. 1863, my artist was passing through Richmond.
So, I'll have to take a look at the Wichita Mountains, too. Huge thanks! Beej
