Hoot,
This was a banner year for griz sightings in the valley. There was one female with 2 yearling cubs that I saw repeatedly in the same place. It spoiled me. I just knew that if I was in the area late in the day, I just had to walk a couple hundred yards from the road, and glass their hangout. They would exit the forest around 6 or 7:00 p.m., and graze in the meadow just north of the forest. One of the cubs was famous for wandering off, and losing track of mom and his/her sibling. It would panic, stand up, looking around, and eventually, after locating them, take off running to reunite. Of course, it would be repeated 5 or 10 minutes later.
Then we had our famous bear/wolf extravaganza in August, when the bison carcass brought scavengers from all directions out near the pond in western Hayden.
Just kept seeing bears. Of course, it all slowed down drastically when September arrived.
