Tonight on the local news they said that the sudden explosive growth of the East Troublesome fire is unprecedented in timber in this part of the country.
In one day it grew six-fold in size - by over 140,000 acres. To put that in perspective, the Hayman fire burned 137,760 acres in 2002 and for many years held the record as the largest wildfire in Colorado history.
Three of the state's largest wildfires have occurred in 2020.
A good friend just lost his new retirement home on a ridge SW of Grand Lake.
There is cold weather, rain and snow in for forecast for the next few days so we can only hope it is enough to help reduce the spread of the multiple fires in northern Colorado and eventually help put them out.
I worry that these recent fires are human caused because lightning season ended a while back.
