This may sound strange coming from someone who never met Allison but she did leave a legacy that had an impact on my Yellowstone experiences.

When I first heard about Allison a few years ago I discovered her 2001 trip report online. Reading that story led to learning more about her and the group hike to "Allison Lake" for a memorial event.

During my September, 2017 trip to Yellowstone I asked Rocco Paperiello to guide me and a friend to Allison Lake since he had been there before to see the thermal features.

The chosen day dawned very cold and snowy. But I was not to be deterred so we set out along the power line. It was an amazing experience and we had a moment of silence to remember someone I never met.

Poor Rocco froze his feet when we picked the wrong path back - through a marshy area. But had it not been for this person who obviously made a big impression on so many Loons, I would have never made the effort to see one of the more amazing back country areas in the park.
